Glaucoma is a disease that targets the optic nerve; the nerve that carries the images we see to the brain. While the exact causes of optic nerve damage from glaucoma is not fully understood, it involves mechanical compression and/or decreased blood flow of the optic nerve.
The only sure way to diagnose glaucoma is by seeing your Ophthalmologist for a complete, comprehensive eye examination. Your doctor will do several tests and evaluations during your comprehensive exam to diagnose or rule out glaucoma.
